We’re back from our blog vacay and quite a lot has happened during our hiatus… Summer 2013 Men’s Collections, Raf Simons, CFDA Awards, Spain owning Italy and so much more! We have an entire summer ahead of us and we promise not to miss a beat. So without further ado, let’s talk about BALENCIAGA. Specifically, Balenciaga’s first ad campaign for men’s wear. Exciting stuff, right? Absolutely. Not only because the line was launched eight years ago, but its also a sign of where men’s fashion is and where it will be headed. The ads will be unveiled on Balenciaga.com on Tuesday and will appear in our favorite men’s fashion mags this September.

Many people are buzzing whether or not 2012 will finally be Patrick Ervell’s year to take home a win. Nominated for this year’s Menswear Designer of the Year, Patrick Ervell is no stranger to the CFDA Awards. Patrick Ervell has been nominated in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for the Swarovski Award for Menswear, runner up for the 2009 CFDA Fund and nominated for Menswear Designer of the Year in 2011.
Known for “his modern American Sportswear pieces”, Patrick Ervell has certainly made an indelible mark on Menswear. Since debuting his collection in 2006 at Opening Ceremony, Patrik Ervell has been at the forefront of design by using “innovative materials, which have included gold foil, vintage parachutes, fabrics stained with oxidized iron and copper, handmade rubber raincoats and even woven horsehair”.

Fashion is described as being evolutionary and not revolutionary. Unfortunately, the evolution of Menswear seems to move at a glacial speed. However, Patrick Ervell is speeding things up a bit with his spring 2012 collection. Hawaiian prints were a major trend this spring, so its been refreshing to see this trend make its way on the boys thanks to Ervell.
